A progressive group is getting the Democratic candidates for lieutenant governor together for some ice cream at Pen Park.
Indivisible Charlottesville’s ice cream social, scheduled for 2 p.m. May 29 at the Charlottesville park’s shelters 1 and 2, has lined up lobbyist and Democratic activist Susan Platt and federal prosecutors Justin Fairfax and Gene Rossi. The group says that candidates will answer a questionnaire before the event to jumpstart conversations “about how they would use the office to expand democracy.”
The Republicans running for lieutenant governor include Del. Glenn Davis Jr., R-Virginia Beach, and state Sens. Jill Holtzman Vogel, R-Fauquier, and Bryce Reeves, R-Spotsylvania. According to the Virginia Public Access Project, Bobby “BJ” Junes, a retired real estate consultant who dropped out of the 2016 Richmond mayoral race, is running as an independent.
