A progressive group is getting the Democratic candidates for lieutenant governor together for some ice cream at Pen Park.
Indivisible Charlottesville’s ice cream social, scheduled for 2 p.m. May 29 at the Charlottesville park’s shelters 1 and 2, has lined up lobbyist and Democratic activist Susan Platt and federal prosecutors Justin Fairfax and Gene Rossi. The group says that candidates will answer a questionnaire before the event to jumpstart conversations “about how they would use the office to expand democracy.”

BRISTOL, Va. — Former federal prosecutor and Alexandria resident Gene Rossi made the decision to run for lieutenant governor while lying in a hospital bed four years ago.
On Jan. 20, 2013, Rossi said he was at Johns Hopkins Hospital with his wife, Diane, at his side. He was receiving treatment for a rare blood disease known as amyloidosis.
Rossi, 60, said he was watching then-President Barack Obama’s second inauguration and recalled that his two sons were in the audience.
